Two traditional groups with experience in timber operating since 1910´s decade, Madeireira Giacomet S.A. and Marodin Exportação S.A. joined in 1972 to establish Giacomet-Marodin Indústria de Madeiras S.A. with the object of buying approximately 100 thousand hectares of land and forest in the Southwest of Parana State.

• In 1973 was issued the Managing Plan for Rational and Integrated Property Use with support of Brazilian and Canadian consultants, develops plantations of Araucaria and Taeda Pine, thus starting the implantation of the timber processing industry for Hardwoods.

• In 1974 the Company presents to IBDFF (current IBAMA) its Foresty Plan for next years, commiting to plant Araucaria trees.

• In 1976 started the largest and most modern sawmill and remanufacturing plant of all wood industry in Latin America.

• In 1980, the Company introduced an updated Forestry Management/Exploitation Plan to IBDFF, expanding its previous plantation goals.

• In its search for improving productivity in 1982, a fully mechanized sawmill of German technology was implanted, for the very best use made of small diameter logs.

• In 1991 its industrial plant was readjusted for processing reforested Pine timber, by increasing capacity of kiln dryers and boilers and starting a pioneering system for the remanufacture of wood, the so-called finger-joint process. In this same year the Company updates its Forestry Management Plan in accordance to IBAMA"s instructions.

• In March 1997 Giacomet-Marodin had its Company Name changed into Araupel S.A.

• In 1998 the Company requested the Imaflora for the pre-qualification of the Forestry Certificate. After that date the Company prepared strenuously for the Forestry Certificate by means of several adjustments of all its activities.

• In 2001 Araupel succeeded in obtaining the Chain of Custody Certification from FSC, and then gave up using lumber from native forests. Even in that very year, Araupel is granted by IBAMA the recognition of 5,151 hectares as a Private Reserve of Natural Patrimony - RPPN Corredor do Iguaçu, one of the largest ever in South of Brazil.

• In 2002 the Company is awarded the Forest Management Certification from FSC.

During its history Araupel was granted several prizes for its performance in Brazilian exports and figured in the major rankings from institutes such as the State of Parana Chamber of Commerce, FACEEP, Fundação Getúlio Vargas, Revista Exame, Revista da Madeira.
